Energy Ministry and GUtech boost geoscience collaboration

Aiming to enhance scientific cooperation in the field of minerals, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by His Excellency Eng Salim al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) in the field of Geology and Earth Science. The MOU aims to strengthen cooperation in the field of mineral exploration, development of geographical and geological databases in the Sultanate of Oman, and support innovation and the development of local manufacturing in the mining industry. Professor Dr Michael Braun, Rector of GUtech, signed the MOU on behalf of GUtech.

 

The MoU promotes collaboration in geological surveys, studies, and research, as well as boosting joint efforts to explore metallic and non-metallic minerals. It also supports updating the development of geographical and geological data in the Sultanate of Oman, facilitating exploration and prospecting, and conducting training programs designed to improve capabilities in the minerals sector.

 

HE Salim al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, stated, “The MoU reflects the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to cooperate with scientific and academic institutions in the Sultanate of Oman to support geological studies and research in the field of earth sciences, encourage innovation and scientific research in mineral exploration and prospecting, in addition to the exchange of knowledge in the field, which will have a positive impact on innovation and the development of industries in the mineral sector.

 

We also ensure our support for research centers specialized in green hydrogen and the joint cooperation between higher education institutions and the government to ensure the sustainability of education and innovation.” On the other hand, Professor Dr Michael Braun, Rector of GUtech, said: “By signing the MOU with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, we aim to promote scientific research and innovation in the field of geology and earth sciences, exchange experience and knowledge between the two sides, and coordinate with MEM to participate in national, regional, and international events and forums on minerals and geology to enhance interaction and exchange in this important sector.

 

” The MoU was signed during HE Salim al Aufi’s visit to GUtech, where he reviewed the university’s latest academic and research achievements and some student projects in various research disciplines. HE Al Aufi also visited the Oman Hydrogen Center, a research center for developing the green energy sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

 

During the visit, Ministry officials provided a comprehensive presentation on different sectors. Dr. Firas Al-Abduwani, Director General of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen, delivered a presentation on the hydrogen sector. Hamoud al Sawafi, Director of Oil Production Regulation, gave an insightful talk on the oil and gas industry. Meanwhile, Ibrahim al Sawafi, a geologist in the Minerals Directorate, delivered an informative presentation on the minerals sector.
