‘Made in Oman’ SUV to be ready this year

The country’s first electric SUV to be manufactured at Duqm will be ready for customers by the end of this year.

The company, Mays, said through its social media account that the SUV brand Alive 1 will hit the market by the end of this year with prices in the range of around RO16,000.

The company said that as the number of orders exceeded expectations, it is studying the need to increase production in the first year.

The Mays Alive 1 will run fully on electric charging and is designed to suit the climate conditions of the GCC region.

The company is focusing on using locally available parts and reducing manufacturing costs to reach the market faster.

The Made in Oman product will open up job opportunities in the field of maintenance and spare parts, the company said.

It may be noted that several governments have proclaimed that 2030-2050 fossil fuel-powered cars will be phased out between 2030 and 2050.

The prototype has been introduced in the governorates of North Al Batinah and Muscat.
