The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) on Tuesday celebrated Logistics Day at Sheraton Oman Hotel, marking a significant milestone in Oman’s logistical landscape.

Concurrently, the second session of the Oman Ports Conference, themed “Oman on the Logistics Performance Index,” was inaugurated, a collaborative effort between Al Roya Newspaper and the Omani Logistics Association (OLA).

According to MTCIT minister, the designation of Logistics Day underscores the significance of continuous growth, integration, and sustainability within the logistics sector to realize the objectives of “Oman Vision 2040.”

Highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to advancing the logistics sector, the minister announced a series of initiatives to enhance accessibility, including providing free transportation for college and university students within Muscat and Salalah for two years.

“Public Transport Open Day” is an initiative targeting citizens to provide free public transportation in Muscat and Salalah for three days starting Thursday, May 2, 2024.

Apart from this, there is the Caravan Initiative, which is a programme to hone the skills of graduates through a comprehensive plan aimed at strengthening and developing small and medium-sized companies operating in the Sultanate of Oman.

The initiative aims to train and employ 100 graduates who hold “third level” certificates from the Accredited Logistics Institute.

The duration of this initiative ranges from two to five years.

The event also marked the launch of the third phase of workshops and clinics to attract investment in the logistics sector, alongside the announcement of winners for the Best Practices in the Logistics Sector Award, aimed at recognizing and incentivizing excellence within the industry.
