Muscat most densely populated governorate

Muscat is the most densely populated governorate in the Sultanate of Oman ahead of Al Batinah North Governorate, which used to top the list until the recent past.

 

Muscat Governorate (six wilayats — Muscat, Muttrah, Al Seeb, Qurayat, Bausher and Al Amerat ) is home to 28.7 per cent of the total population of Oman, with 1,473,624 people, including 573,387 Omanis (38.9 per cent) and 900,237 expatriates. The population of Muscat increased by 2.5 per cent to 1,449,396 from 1,401,456 at the end of 2022.

 

According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the total population of the Sultanate of Oman increased by 6.1 per cent at the end of the third quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The percentage of the Omani population is 56.69 per cent. Al Batinah North Governorate is the second most densely populated governorate with its population increasing by 7.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2022 to 903,312, constituting 17.6 per cent of the total population of the Sultanate of Oman. Omanis constitute 64.7 per cent of the governorate’s total population at 584,627 compared to 318,685 expatriates.

 

The population of the Al Batinah South Governorate constitute 10.4 per cent of the total population of Oman with 536,724 people compared to 499,629 at the end of the third quarter of 2022, an increase of 7.4 per cent. The Omani population is 375,302 people, representing 69.9 per cent of the total population of the governorate.

 

The population of Al Buraimi Governorate increased by 1.8 per cent, reaching 131,128 at the end of last September, including 75,892 Omanis, or 57.9 per cent, while the number of expatriates reached 55,236.

 

The population of Dhofar Governorate increased by 13.1 per cent in the first nine months of 2023, to 514,494 people, representing 10 per cent of the total population of Oman.
